ProTech Foot Massage Balls : Put the Spring Back in Your Step
Even on a good day, my arches are usually tight....which means my feet often get sore. I usually don't do much about it until my plantar fasciitis flares up. Then the pain forces me to take action. In the past I relied on my massage therapist to get me back on my feet. Now, I have the ideal therapeutic tools for home care -- Plantar Massage Balls by ProTec. The balls are made out of wood, which provides exactly the right amount of resistance when I roll one under my arch. The balls come in two sizes, small and medium. I use the medium-sized ball under my arch and in front of my heel and the small ball under my metatarsal arch. The exercises are simple; I just roll a ball along my arch or press the tight area of my foot against a ball. I prefer doing my exercises with bare feet (as opposed to the sock-footed sample in the photo above) because I feel like I get better traction. Physical therapists often recommend using a golf ball or tennis ball to massage tight arches. Both work, but I think this suggestion is also based on the fact that these are commonly found items in many households. The thing is--I'm too lazy and too cheap to buy a container of golf or tennis balls just to get one!! So, I was really happy to discover ProTec's Plantar Massage Balls. I like that they're made out of wood, too, because they're lightweight and still hard enough to do the job. I'm allergic to some types of plastic, so having a therapeutic ball made out of a natural material like wood is also good for me. The balls come in a drawstring pouch, so they're easy to store and easy to pack when I travel. Now that I have them, I've been taking better care of my feet. After a long hike or power walk, I like to roll one under my feet at night while I watch TV. It's like getting a mini foot massage; they're surprisingly effective. Available in two sizes, small (one-inch diameter) and medium (one-and-a-half inch diameter). Package contains two small and two medium balls. *If you have a foot injury, see a doctor or physical therapist for a diagnosis and treatment plan. Bottom Line: A simple, inexpensive, effective tool for taking care of your feet. I love using my ProTec balls.--E.D.
